Key West Fishing Charter Reviews

What 792 Google reviews say about the 20 charters we book, grouped by the kind of trip. Not ranked.

Which Key West fishing charter is best?

The one built for your trip. A shared party boat suits solo anglers and big groups. A private offshore boat suits mahi and tuna. A backcountry skiff suits tarpon. Families do best on a patient half-day crew. Below, each charter is grouped that way, with what its reviewers say.

How did we read the reviews?

On 6 October 2026 we pulled the newest 40 Google reviews for each charter. That came to 792 reviews across 20 operators. We read them for what comes up again and again: the crew, the fish, kids and beginners.

Everything below is our summary, not a quote. For the full picture, read the reviews on Google. Ratings are Google’s. Each one carries its review count and the date we read it. The order means nothing. Each section runs A to Z.

We earn a commission if you book through our links. That is why we rank nobody. We have not fished every boat, either. For docks and booking details, see the charter operator directory.

Shared party boats

You buy a place on a big boat and fish beside other people. It is the cheapest way onto the water, and the right call for solo anglers or a group too big for a six-pack charter.

Questions about Key West charters

How much does a fishing charter cost in Key West?

The operator sets the price, and it varies with the boat, the length and how many of you go. A place on a shared party boat costs far less than a private boat. This page lists no prices. Each booking page shows the full total before you pay.

What is the cheapest way to go fishing in Key West?

Buy a place on a shared party boat instead of chartering a whole boat. Gulfstream, Cora Beth and Salty Goat sell by the place, and Captain Conch runs a shared split. Reviewers say the trade-off is company: you fish beside strangers, and a full boat can feel crowded.

Should I tip the crew, and how much?

Yes. Tipping the mate is customary and is not included in the charter price. Bring cash, because not every boat takes cards for tips. This site gives no percentage, because it has no reliable source for one.

Do I need a fishing license on a charter?

No. Under Florida’s FWC rules, a for-hire boat with a valid charter license covers its passengers. You need your own license only to fish from a pier, a bridge, the shore or a rental boat.

What is the best month to fish in Key West?

It depends on what you want to catch. Tarpon, mahi and sailfish peak at different times. Our month-by-month guide covers the year, with what each kind of trip targets.

How were these reviews chosen?

We read the newest 40 Google reviews for each operator on 6 October 2026, 792 in all, and summarised them in our own words. We did not pick favourable reviews. We earn a commission if you book, which is why we do not rank anyone.

More before you book. Read what to expect on the day and what to bring. Check when to go. Then find where the boats leave from.
