Fishing on a Key West Cruise Stop

A port day leaves room for one half-day trip, if you pick a dock close to the ship and leave a buffer. The ship does not wait.

Can you go fishing on a Key West cruise stop?

Yes, on a four-hour trip, which Key West Fishing Deals says is usually the right fit for cruise passengers. Leave at least 90 minutes between getting back to the dock and all-aboard, and pick a dock near the pier: Key West Bight Marina is a short walk from Mallory Square, per the City.

Where the ships dock, and where the boats are

The City of Key West lists three cruise berths: Mallory Square Dock (400 Wall Street), Pier B (privately owned) and the Navy Mole. The City says Key West Bight Marina, by the Historic Seaport, is only a short walk to Duval Street and Mallory Square.

Charter Boat Row is on the other side of the island, at Garrison Bight. Gulfstream describes its dock there as a five-minute drive or a $10 Uber from Old Town and the cruise port. Stock Island is further still. Charter Boat Row maps all three dock areas.

Charters that suit a port day

Operators on the operator list that either speak to cruise passengers or leave from the Old Town harbour, read 6 October 2026. Only Key West Fishing Deals and Gulfstream mention cruise passengers directly; none gives a walking time from a pier.

How to plan it

  • Book a four-hour trip, not six. Key West Fishing Deals says four is usually the right fit.
  • Leave at least 90 minutes between returning to the dock and all-aboard, per the same operator. Ships leave on time.
  • Tell the operator your ship and all-aboard time when you book.
  • Choose a dock you can reach. Key West Bight and the Old Town marinas are closest to Mallory Square; Charter Boat Row needs a car or taxi.
  • Bring cash for the tip and sun cover; what to bring has the list.

Cruise-ship fishing: questions

How long a fishing trip can you do on a Key West port day?

Four hours is the usual fit: Key West Fishing Deals says so, and recommends leaving at least 90 minutes between getting back to the dock and all-aboard. A longer trip risks missing the ship.

Which charter docks are closest to the Key West cruise port?

Key West Bight Marina and the Old Town marinas off Front Street. The City of Key West says Key West Bight is a short walk from Mallory Square. Charter Boat Row, at Garrison Bight, is a drive: Gulfstream puts it at five minutes or a $10 Uber.

Can I keep fish on a cruise-day charter?

You can keep legal fish, and crews will clean them. Check your cruise line’s rules before planning to take fish aboard, or take the fillets to a Key West restaurant that cooks your catch: what happens to your fish names some. What fish you can keep has the limits.
