Five of the twenty operators on the operator list showed no price on their booking pages in the October 6 scan, so they are not in these ranges. What’s included in the price, and what’s extra

The operators read for this page agree on most of it. Included, almost everywhere: rods and tackle, bait, ice, bottled water, and the boat’s fishing licence, which covers everyone fishing aboard (see do you need a fishing licence). Most crews clean and bag the fish you keep at no charge.

Extra, almost everywhere: food and drinks, which you bring yourself (several say no glass), and the crew’s tip. Some operators add more:

  • Fuel surcharges on Key West Fishing Deals trips, on Wrecked Charters, on Blind Squirrel’s Dry Tortugas runs and on Conch ’N Around’s full days. Key West Fishing Deals says its listed charter price excludes the applicable fuel surcharge and the tip; on its shark trips the surcharge runs $50 to $150 depending on length.
  • Fish cleaning by the fish on the Gulfstream party boat, at $0.50 a fish, and rod rental at $5.
  • Your own licence on Wrecked Charters, the only operator read that asks guests to bring or buy one.

What to bring covers the food, sun and seasickness side of the day.

Deposits and cancellation

Private boats booked online usually take a deposit. The booking settings read on October 6, 2026: Charter Boat Linda D 25 percent, Captain Conch and Key West Fishing Deals 20 percent, Boa Vida 10 percent. Salty Goat’s website asks 50 percent for a private charter. Party-boat seats are normally paid in full.

Cancellation windows fall into three groups. Twenty-four hours on the Gulfstream party boat, Captain Conch and Salty Goat’s public trips. Forty-eight hours at Recon, Low Tide and Laid Back. Seven days at Key West Fishing Deals and Wet Dream. Linda D’s own website says a week while its split-charter listing says 48 hours, so ask which applies.

Weather is the easy part. Every operator that states a rule says the captain makes the call and you get a full refund or a new date. Cancellations and weather sets out every operator’s window and the trip-protection options.

Tipping: budget 15 to 20 percent on top

No operator read includes the tip in its price. Those that name a figure: Key West Fishing Deals 15 to 20 percent, Boa Vida 15 to 20 percent for the mate, Salty Goat 20 percent, and Shadow Caster 20 percent or more. On a $1,000 half day that is $150 to $200. The Gulfstream party boat leaves it to you and suggests cash. How much to tip a fishing charter covers who gets it and how.

Half day or full day: what the extra hours buy

At the five operators that publish both, a full day costs between 1.3 and 2 times a half day, and usually well under twice. Laid Back runs $900 for four hours and $1,600 for eight; Linda D $1,000 and $1,500; Blind Squirrel’s Even Keel $950 and $1,250. The extra hours are mostly travel time: a half day fishes the reef and the backcountry close to Key West, a full day has the time to reach offshore water and fish it.

Half day vs full day sets the two side by side, including what each catches and which suits children.

Private, split or party boat?

Price per person decides it for most people. Four people sharing a private half day pay about $163 to $300 each. A split charter, sharing a small boat with strangers, ran $225–$300 a person at Linda D (see split charters). A party-boat seat costs $69.95–$99, with children’s fares as low as $39.95. What the private price buys is the boat, the crew’s full attention and the say over where you fish.

What to expect on the day explains how each kind of trip runs, and Charter Boat Row shows where they leave from.

Charter price questions

How much does a fishing charter cost in the Florida Keys?

For a private boat, $650–$1,199 for a four-hour half day, $900–$1,500 for six hours and $1,250–$2,000 for eight, per boat, from the prices Key West operators published on October 6, 2026. Shared party-boat seats run $69.95–$99 per adult. Specialty offshore trips, such as swordfishing or a 63-foot sportfisher, start around $2,000. Tip and any fuel surcharge are extra.

What is included in a Key West fishing charter?

Almost always the rods, tackle and bait, the boat’s fishing licence, which covers everyone fishing aboard, and ice. Most crews also clean and bag the fish you keep. Food and drinks are usually yours to bring, and the tip is never in the price. A few operators add a fuel surcharge on long runs. What to expect on the day covers the rest.

Is the tip included in the charter price?

No. Every operator that addresses it says the price does not include the crew’s gratuity. The ones that name a figure land on 15 to 20 percent of the charter price, and two say 20 percent or more. On a party boat it is at your discretion, usually in cash. The tipping guide has each operator’s own wording.

Do you pay a deposit for a Florida Keys charter?

Usually, when you book a private boat online. The booking settings read on October 6, 2026 took 10 to 25 percent at four operators, and one asks 50 percent for a private charter. Party-boat seats are normally paid in full. Cancellation windows run from 24 hours to 7 days, so read the operator’s policy before paying.

Is a private charter cheaper per person than a party boat?

Rarely. Four people splitting a $650–$1,199 half day pay roughly $163 to $300 each, against $69.95–$99 for a party-boat seat. What the extra buys is the boat to yourselves, a crew working for four rather than forty, and the choice of where to fish. Split charters, at $225–$300 a person, sit in between.

Why do Florida Keys charter prices vary so much?

Boat size, trip length, how far the captain runs and the date. A four-person skiff on the flats and a 63-foot sportfisher heading offshore are different products at different costs. Booking pages also price by date, so the same trip can cost more in peak weeks. That is why every figure here carries the date it was read.
